  • December 5, 2007 International Action Against Climate Change
    Bus Riders Union members and allies gather in solidarity with the world to demand action against Global Warming, in particular calling on Mayor Villaraigosa to secure alternative funding sources for the Wilshire Bus Only Lanes that would reduce greenhouse gas emissions from the automobile.
  • September 29, 2007 Anti-War March
    Bus Riders Union members join marchers in protest of President George Bush's Promise to spend $200 billion more for the War in Iraq.
  • June 16, 2007 City-wide Meeting to Stop the Fare Hike
    Allies, community members, and Bus Riders Union members gather to celebrate the movement building victory of May 24th, to discuss legal strategy, and to plan next steps to stop the fare hike from being implemented in July.
  • May 24, 2007 Fare Hike Public Hearing and Final Vote
    MTA holds Public Hearing and the Vote in regards to the MTA proposal for a fare hike. Over 1,500 Bus Riders, Environmentalists, students, parents, teachers, activists, Civil Rights organizers, attend the event.
  • March 27, 2007 Press Conference
    The Bus Riders Union holds press conference urging MTA Chair Gloria Molina, Mayor Antonio Villaraigosa, and the entire MTA Board to withdraw the two-year proposed fare increase plan announced by MTA CEO Roger Snoble for July 2007 and January 2009.
  • March 17, 2007 Anti-War March
    The Bus Riders Union, Westchester High School, Cleveland High School, and Freedom Sound Korean Drumming joins tens of thousands of people in Los Angeles to demand an immediate end to the War in Iraq, on the eve of the fourth year anniversary of the U.S. Invasion of Iraq.

2006

  • March 3rd, 2006 Anti-War March
    The Bus Riders Union takes to the streets of Los Angeles joining tens of thousands, and others in dozens of cities across the United States, to protest the 3rd year anniversary of the U.S. Invasion of Iraq.

2005

  • December 17th, 2005 Monthly Meeting and End of the Year Party
    Members close out the year by gathering together to celebrate each other's hard work through sharing food, poetry, singing, music, and dancing.


  • December 3rd, 2005 USA JOIN THE WORLD! Mass Political Day of Action
    Over 50 BRU members and allies stand in solidarity with hundreds of cities across the world as we urge the Bush Administration and the U.S. Senate to ratify the Kyoto Protocol, an international treaty that requires nations to reduce greenhouse gas emissions by 5 percent. During the action, participants organize on buses and streetcorners passing out over 2000 flyers in a mass political education drive against global warming.
  • July 28th, 2005 First MTA Board Meeting of Newly Elect Mayor Antonio Villaraigosa
    Over 150 Bus Riders Union members and allies greet newly elected Mayor Antonio Villaraigosa at his first MTA Board meeting. Prior to the meeting the BRU wins public comment to be placed at the beginning of each MTA Board meeting, an important victory in protecting the democratic rights of bus riders. After months of threats by the MTA of a fare increase, Mayor Villaraigosa publicly announces that there will be no fare increase pledging his support for a first class bus system.


  • Student Bus Pass Campaign
    Bus Riders Union organizes Los Angeles High School students and bus riders to effectively eliminate the lengthy student bus pass application process that prevented thousands of students from getting their discount bus passes.
